Choosing A Screen:

There are 3 major categories of screen to consider & which you choose depends largely what you want from it:

LCD screens
LCD has dominated the flat screen market in recent years, largely due to the ease of mass producing screens to suit a wide range of budgets.  If you are looking for a smaller screen of 37" or less LCD is also the only choice available as production of Plasma technology is simply not available on such a small scale.  Problems to look out for when buying your LCD screen are uneven brightness & poor contrast levels due to poor backlighting technology & blurring on high speed images due to a low refresh rate.  More advanced models are now using LED backlight technology to improve contrast & eveness & newer panels are allways being released with improved refresh rates.

Plasma Screens
Plasma gives a much superior picture & if you are looking for a larger screen of 40" or more this is the product of choice.  As Plasma pixels are self illuminating contrast & colour performance is superiour to LCD & refresh rates are much faster, giving a much more lifelike reproduction.

Projection Screens
Projectors are the favoured choice for dedicated cinema rooms.  Screens are available from 6 to 20 foot across & the projectors themselves now available for under £1000.  However, projection is a product that requires a more involved installation & can only be enjoyed when all other sources of light in the room are extinguished.  For this reason, many people who wish their cinema system to co-exist with a lounge or games room will find Plasma a more suitable choice.
