HDMI Connections:
Compatible with encrypted High Definition audio-video & a data bandwidth surpassing all current formats, the HDMI connector is fast becoming the connection of choice.  But do be cautious when selecting equipment, there have been many software revisions since its release & many products in circulation are using outdated software not compatible with all the current HDMI features.

Plug type A has 19 contacts & is the connector used on all home cinema equipment.
Plug type B has 29 contacts & is used in the pro & PC markets to carry multiple or higher resolution signals.
Plug type C is a miniature version of type A & is used in the camcorder market.
Plug type D is an even smaller version of type A & is used on the portable video market.

SW Type 1.0 Plug types A & B launched with support for all video resolutions up to 1080p (1080 lines), optional support for 8-channel 192k/24-bit digital audio, Dolby Digital & DTS audio.  In practice, most HDMI-1.0 equipment did not support audio.
SW Type 1.1 Added optional support for the DVD-Audio format (MLP)
SW Type 1.2 Added optional support for the SACD format (One Bit)
SW Type 1.2a Added Optional CEC support (Consumer Electronics Control) allowing connected equipment to send commands to each other & allowing automatic input switching & automatic power on/off of connected components.
SW Type 1.3 Introduced Deep Colour Support for enhanced contrast levels & increased picture support up to resolutions of 1440p.  Additional optional audio support was also introduced for Dolby-Digital Plus, Dolby True-HD & DTS-HD as featured in the new BluRay disc format.  Automatic Audio & Video synchronisation was added to reduce increasing problems with lip sync.
SW Type 1.3a included revisions in the 1.3 specification to increase cross product compatibility & introduction of plug type C.
SW Type 1.3b tighter test procedures introduced to ensure better compliance of specifications in 1.3a
SW Type 1.4 Increased picture resolution up to 2160p (professional digital theatre standard), ethernet network support at 100Mb/s, an audio loopback to provide feed back from your television to the amplifier, 3D Video & introduction of plug type D
